Sustainable Practices at WRAP: Our Commitment to the Environment
At WRAP, we’re deeply committed to sustainability, recognising that while we’re not perfect, we are continually striving to improve our practices. Our goal is to create a work and childcare environment that minimises environmental impact while fostering a culture of responsibility and awareness.
Sustainability in the Workplace
We have implemented several initiatives to ensure that our operations are as eco-friendly as possible:
Renewable Energy: We source our electricity from a renewable energy provider, ensuring that our operations run on clean energy.
Energy Efficiency: Our business centre and nursery use energy-saving LED light bulbs, smart plugs, and encourage staff to unplug all equipment at the end of the day to minimise energy consumption.
Waste Reduction: We have actively cut down on single-use plastics across our nursery and business centre. We also use rechargeable batteries to further reduce waste.
Eco-Friendly Supplies: Our cleaning products are eco-friendly, and we prioritise sustainable materials in our daily operations.
Recyclable and Locally Sourced Products: Our partnerships with local businesses, such as our coffee supplier, ensure that packaging is recyclable, and products are sourced as locally as possible.
Recycling and Food Waste Management: We have recycling bins placed all around the nursery, business centre, and meeting rooms, as well as food waste bins in all of the kitchen areas to ensure proper waste sorting and reduction.
Sustainability in the Nursery
Our nursery operates with sustainability at its core, integrating environmental responsibility into everyday learning and activities:
Plant-Based Menu: All food prepared at WRAP Nursery is plant-based, reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable eating habits.
Encouraging Nature Exploration: Children engage in activities that promote an appreciation for nature, such as nature walks and outdoor play.
Hands-on Learning: We teach children about the food cycle by growing, harvesting, and preparing food for our plant-based menu.
Waste and Energy Awareness: Through play-based activities, we help children understand the importance of water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
Sustainable Materials: The nursery uses natural materials like wood, stone, and sand for play, avoiding plastic toys where possible.
Recycling Initiatives: We have a dedicated recycling area and encourage parents to continue sustainable habits at home by involving them in our recycling programs.
Reusable Cloth Nappies: To minimise waste, we use reusable cloth nappies instead of disposable ones.
Eco-Conscious Habits: We encourage parents and children to walk or cycle to the nursery, reducing the environmental impact of daily commutes.
Looking Ahead
While we are proud of the sustainable practices we have already implemented, we acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. Our ongoing efforts include further reducing our carbon footprint, enhancing waste reduction measures, and exploring innovative ways to embed sustainability into every aspect of our business.
At WRAP, sustainability is not just a policy, it’s a continuous journey. We are committed to making progress every day, and we invite our community to join us in making a positive impact on the planet.
