Community Breakfast with Together Co ⁓ July

For the July’s edition of our monthly Community Breakfast we are joined by Together Co, Brighton & Hove’s leading loneliness and social health charity.

Together Co creates connections to change the lives of lonely & isolated people in Brighton & Hove through befriending, social prescribing and volunteering services. With the help of around 470 volunteers, Together Co supports over 2,000 people each year.

Every year on 12th May people are invited to record their experiences of that day. Participation is open to everyone; diaries can be written, drawn or photographed. Responses are stored at The Keep in Sussex, as part of the Mass Observation archive.

Tide and Place Private View Evening - Sussex Bay x WRAP

WRAP and Sussex Bay invite you to 'Tide and Place'. An exhibition by UK-based artists exploring our relationship with the sea and coastline.

'Tide and Place' explores how we interact, inhabit, narrate and think of the marine environment, both individually and on a collective scale. In the middle of the Anthropocene crisis, how can we reinforce our position as part of nature, rather than apart from it? The exhibition will reflect a variety of mediums, practices and community initiatives, resulting in a dynamic conversation between the self and the sea.

    Traditional Chinese Calligraphy Workshop

    Every Thursday 16:00 - 17:30

    During the workshop, you are going to enjoy using the Chinese calligraphy brushes to write some Chinese words. You will learn the structures and strokes in writing traditional Chinese. The tutor will be introducing some simple vocabulary and idioms during the workshop. And if you feel like going an extra step, you could learn about how to write Chinese poems as well!

    Fluid Paint Workshop

    Every Tuesday and Friday 16:00 and 16:30 ● Every Saturday 15:00, 15:30, 16:00 and 16:30

    During this workshop, you will learn how to use fluid paints to create beautiful patterns. No experience is needed and it’s the perfect creative workshop for beginners or for those looking to make thoughtful hand-made gifts for friends and family. All materials are provided. Just come and enjoy! (Ages 12+)

    Zen Garden Workshop

    Every Wednesday 16:00 and 17:30

    Rocks, sand, plants and rakes. These are the elements that form a Japanese Zen Garden, a kind of Japanese traditional art that you can find in temples especially in Kyoto and Tokyo. By using different kinds of sand rakes and bamboo rakes different patterns are created in the gravel.

    In the workshop, you will be introduced to the concepts and basic techniques of Japanese Zen Gardens. An individual table set of materials will be provided. At the end of this soul-calming journey, you will enjoy a cuppa of Japanese green tea as a curtain-fall to the workshop.

    During the Art Jamming workshops, you are free to let your imagination loose and paint whatever inspires you with the materials provided. Painting guidance can be provided if necessary. It’s a great time for you and your friends to gather and enjoy painting freestyle, while chatting with a cuppa.

    Parents with young children are always welcome in the following sessions: Tue and Fri 16:00 - 18:00 or Sat 15:00 - 19:00
