A reflective, intimate discussion around grief and the sea with artists Carrie Stanley and Elena Stevanoska.
WRAP is honoured to invite you to a reflective, intimate discussion around grief and the sea. Artists Carrie Stanley and Elena Stevanoska will be talking about their grief journeys and creative exploration of healing with an invited host. Carrie creates work using the sea as a place for reflection and mirror of internal emotions. Elena’s practice delves into the psychological weight of spaces we inhabit and leave behind. Her work uses the sea as a vast, shifting metaphor for contemporary uncertainty, and here we navigate the line between finding home and feeling adrift. There will be opportunities to ask questions at the end.
Each ticket includes a donation to Sussex Bay.
About the artists:
The sea and shoreline, as places of healing and transformation, are predominant in my work. My practise explores a very personal narrative of trauma and grief recovery, where a deepening connection with the coast has enabled me to embrace a fully immersive and multi disciplinary approach. I embrace a wide range of materials including beach finds, natural organic matter, up cycled locally sourced items and fabrics. The ocean and lunar seascapes become voices for an emotional inner dialogue which births new mythologies and spiritual connection, the emergent work is full of playfulness and joy. For the last 18 months I have been predominantly using ultramarine blue as a colour which signifies expansiveness, energy and infinite possibilities.
Elena Stevanoska’s practice navigates the line between finding home and feeling adrift. Traditionally focused on cultural and urban landscapes and figurative studies of destruction, her use of the sea is a vast, shifting metaphor for contemporary uncertainty. ‘Sky in Winter’ explores the moment where the permanence of place meets the relentless, transformative power of the tide.
